Pak 'n Save

This is my Thank you saying to pak 'n save for always giving us free bread every morning. My teacher picks it up and brings it to school for the unfortunate people. Some people get called to take the bread home for their families. The bread they get is fresh and soft so they can put it on their lunches. Without pak 'n save we wouldn't have any bread. Thank you pak 'n save.

Meeting the Silver Ferns

On Tuesday the 13th of October we met the Silver Ferns. They came to St Kentigern College to meet us. We played ball tag, shots up and played on  a little half court. We were in groups with this other school called randwick intermediate. We went around all the silver ferns and had lunch. After lunch the silver ferns had to leave for netball training. When they left we played some netball games the had to leave. When we hopped into the vans we were singing song from the radio. It was so fun and hope we get to go next year.

Drop, Cover, Hold

New Zealand shakeout will be taking place on the 15th of October 2015 at 9:15 am. New Zealand will be the first country to participate this year. New Zealand shakeout is a national earthquake drill taking place all over the country. It’s a chance for people to practise for the real thing. You always have to be prepared for an earthquake because New Zealand is one of the worst places for earthquakes to hit and could leave serious damage. The whole of New Zealand will be doing it. So don’t forget to DROP,COVER,HOLD.

Estimation

Estimating

Walt: Estimate

IMG_4052.JPG

On Tuesday Megan and I made a chain out of coloured paper. First we had to discuss how we were going to cut it to make it long. We decided to cut it width wise so we had a lot of paper strips. We all got two sheets of paper Red and Green.

Next, we measured it out and cut the strips 1 cm each piece. We made a pattern 2 red then 2 green all the way. I was cutting while Megan was gluing it together.

Then, I started helping Megan finish the chain. I started at one end and Megan did the other end.
I wanted to make it red, green but everyone else was doing it so we did our own way.

Later we got a total of 170 cm I thought it could go longer. We could of cut the strips smaller to make it longer but we left it at 1 cm.

I enjoyed making the chain. My favourite bit was connecting all the strips. At the end I wore it like a necklace most of the mornings. I hope we get to make another one again.

Length of chains

Length of chains

Walt:
1. Arrange length in order.
2. Find mean, median, mode, range.
3. explain the differences in length.

Pairs
Length of Chain in centimetres
Viliami and Howard
383
Munokoa and Samuel
320
Petuana and Yazmin
304
Stephanie and Cherish
286
Ketura  and Serena
220
Andrea and Lana
200
Alyssa and Shanelle
192
Ifa and Tane
192
Lorenzo and Liam
170
Lauren and Megan
170
Wesley and Koliata
169
Ben and Dion
86

The mean is 229.3
The median is 200.
The mode is 192.
The range is 297.

I think the longest chain would be Viliami and Howard’s because their chain came up to a total of 383 cm and 3.83 m. I think it is because it was the way they cut their strips. Majority of the class cut it width wise and they went lengthwise. Ben and Dion’s one was the smallest because their chain was 86cm long. They cut width wise and they cut it very thick. That’s the differences.

Bamzooki - Maths

Walt: Mean, Median, Mode and Range

This is my score that I got. I got 300 for the first stage and 600 on the last stage. I kind of enjoyed this game because it helped me to understand strand a lot easier now. I thought I would fail the game cause I kept on getting it wrong. The thing I wanted to improve on was the Range. I was a little bit confused about it because I had no sound on it. The on I found the easiest is Mean and the median because I had to calculate all the data then divided it by how many numbers there were. The Median is the middle number so that was easy to find. I want to play more games like this but a little more challenging.

Reading - e asttle results

Walt: Reflect on my e asttle

This is my e asttle results that I got in my reading. I’m very happy with my results that I got. My score that I got was a 4p. I am above the national standard. I wasn’t expecting to get such a high score. The reason how I got my result is that I read the question and carefully chose the one I though was right.  Screenshot 2015-11-17 at 11.21.29 AM.png

Geometric Tranformations

This is the game that I played using all these selections. I got up to level 9 and there’s 18 levels so I was half way. I thought this game was fun and helps me with my strand. I was shocked that I got up to level 9. I hope there is other games that we can practice like this.

Foil art

Last week Friday we did art with tin foil. We had to draw with our blunt pencils to make the design. We had to then do it with a bold marker and then write there names. My one mistake is that I gave Kevin one eye not two. I hope we can do this again.

Double Bar Graph Rm 11

maths.png

Walt: use online tools to draw a double bar graph.

Watched Didn’t Watch
B:10 B:3
G:5 G:7

My class and I made this double bar graph each. The students in room 11 had a show of hands to see who watched it and who didn’t. We use the show of hands to show how many boys and girls watched the RWC final and how many didn’t watch the RWC final. In the data I collected there were more boys than girls who watched the game and more girls didn’t watch the game than the boys. I think boys watch rugby more than girls is that girls don’t have much interest in it. They might have no TV or Sky to watch it on. The closest person to the score was Robin his prediction was 32 - 17.

Ripper Rugby

Yesterday we went to ripper ruby. The coach nick taught us passing skills. The first he taught us was a bulletpass. You pass it with one hand as hard and fast as you can. The other pass he taught us was tornado pass. You just flick it with one hand. We played a game of ripper rugby then played a game of bull rush. It was a fun and can't wait till next week.

Leaving a mark

Walt: write a paragraph

In my class we have been talking about leaving a mark and my mark is to be the first person to find the cure for every disease. It has been my dream since I was 8 when I saw a homeless man on the street with a horrible cough and it made me think if I was like that and somebody saw me in need. I want to be able to be their for people when they need me. I hear on the news that people are dieing in West Africa from a common disease called Ebola. Also if somebody in my family is sick I will know what to do. As my brother always says to me

“A day above ground is a good day.” So that’s why I want to be the first person to find the cure to every disease. That’s what I want to leave my mark as.

Thank you letter to Ms Parks

Room 11
Glen Innes School

25 September 2015

Dear Ms Parks,

Walt: write a letter to Ms Parks

Thank you for helping so much. You taught me how to write properly. Since you have been coming to our school and teaching my teacher what to do I have been writing even better. I’m sure that I can write a whole page story accurately.

The video clip that you sent to my teacher to watch was interesting. After watching it a few times we had to describe it, then we had to write a paragraph about it. When you came to me I was stuck. You said “ use the words that you have and let it make sense.”
I said “Okay.” When I finished my teacher gave me a great comment.

In the Diamante poem it was about verbs, adjectives, nouns and adverbs. I thought it was hard. You said to just do it the same way as the 4x4 poem. I it seemed to become more easy for me to do.

The 4x4 poem was cool because we could describe anything that you wanted. It was the same as the diamante poem so it was easy to do. I like the 4x4 poem because it’s easy to do, simple and fun.

You also did attributes with us. My attribute was loyal. I asked you how to write about it. You said go look in the dictionary these words that I didn’t even know that was words. I now look in the dictionary if I ever want a word or two. You said that attributes were something that represents you and I didn’t know that, so you taught me something.

The last thing I want to say is thanks for being the best teacher ever. You would always come to our school and teach us when you could be doing something nice. Hope you can come back next term.

Yours sincerely

Lauren

Walt: study my e-asttle results.

This is my e asttle results that I got. I am over the moon with my results. In my e asttle test I got just above the national standard. I got a 3A which means level 3 achieved. In my to be achieved I only have 7 things to be achieved. I also have the same amount for my Gaps and that’s what I really want to achieve those. In my statistics I got a 5B which is quite good because the last test I got a 2A so I have really taken a big step. I am happy that I got that and now I can do more to get a greater result.

New flag for New Zealand

Walt: Find the flag we like.

The flag I like the second one. This is the flag
that I would like to see waving around New Zealand. It has a very distinctive look to it that makes It stand out for me. I’m quite  glad that It still has the stars on it which I like the most. Then the big white fern is my favorite of the flag because it’s like there's a bit of sport in it. I chose this flag because It looks like the current flag. The colours are what I really like about it. I don’t know why we're changing the flag but we have to. It represents us because it’s native patterns on it is how I think it represents us.

Converting fractions to decimals

Walt: Converting fractions into decimals.

My score.PNG

In this game I had to convert a fraction into a decimal. In this picture I got the equivalent decimal to this fraction. I found out that I really knew the fractions with the numerator 10, 100, 1000 and 10000. I was proud of myself for getting 20 out of 20 as my final score. I really liked this game and want more like this.

Fraction Matcher

Fraction.PNG

Walt: Match Fractions

This game is called Matching fractions. All you do is just match the fraction. I like playing this game because it helps me understand more about matching them up. The last level was hard but I got most of it right. I thought it was easy to do the first 11 levels but not the twelfth. I thought it was fun and want to do more examples like these.

My millo cup

milo.png

Walt: design our own NZ milo mug.

This is my milo design I did. The first thing we had to do was draw a design o a piece of paper. We had the choice to draw one or more and choose the one you want. I liked this design so I drew it on the cup. I think I will like my milo in this cup.

Hockey

FullSizeRender.jpg

Today at 9:30 am my class and I went to play hockey. We got taught by a lady named lydia. The first thing she taught us was the safety tips. The first one was to always keep the stick on the ground at all times. The second one was to not swing the stick around to avoid hitting someone in the head. The first activity we did was follow the leader, you had to try lose your team. We played the other game called traffic light green meant go, orange meant slow down, red meant stop, purple meant reverse and silver meant super fast. Other game we played was you had to try hit the ball up and down on your stick. The last game we played was we had to run around the goal and try and hit it in the other goal. Lydia was so fun to work with and I can’t wait till next week.

Fraction Speedway

Speedway.png

Walt: Add and subtract fractions and mixed numbers.

In this game you have to try and add and subtract fractions as fast as you can to win the race. You have to know your fractions, addition and subtraction. I really enjoyed this game and especially that I came first. All you do is add or subtract for example 1/4 + 3/4 which is one whole. I hope we can have a game that the denominators are not the same.

This is my basic facts. I didn’t get as much as I wanted. It was a bit hard doing Fractions & Percentages. I enjoyed playing this game it was interesting and noligible. It helps me in my times tables and division. This was a fun game to play a hope I get more games like this.

The big tukariri

The big tukariri

Walt: create a maori myth.

“Tahi go and get your brother,” commanded Tahi’s dad. Tahi went to go get his brother Mana. Mana and Tahi aren't really brothers you see they grew up together, Mana’s parents went to battle with the tribe and Tahi’s dad stayed behind due to feeling unwell. When Mana’s parents didn’t make it back, Mana bursted into tears trying to get over the tragedy of his parents. They have been together for 19 years. “I want you and Mana to go and get some kaimoana for the whanau” said Tahi’s dad.

They set off trudging through the forest looking upon the tall hollow trees. Mana started to get tired so they set up a little ahi (campfire) around them to keep them warm. The next morning they found a lake and gathered some water. They tried their luck and look for some fish but there was nothing. They carried on further down, they started to smell an unpleasant odor. They got closer and closer. It was a pile of dead fish, there were claw marks, fur and a dead fox lying on the ground. Tahi looked at it and the meat was still fresh. Tahi and Mana started to cut up the fox soon after they started to eat the fox.

They hear a loud roar. Mana said  “I know that roar from anywhere, this is a bears territory”. They scurried to an exit. It was to late, the bear had returned. They stood there like statues. Tahi grabbed his knife and stabbed the bear which made it more angry. Mana distracted the bear while Tahi got a spear and threw it directly into the bear's heart making it collapses to the ground. They heard a thundering sound.
It started to rain heavily soon after the sky turn white like a camera's flash. Suddenly something unusual happened. It started raining fish they got their peki (bags) and open them as wide as they could. They headed off back to tribe with people surrounding them. They cooked all the fish and some vegetables with it. The chief congratulated them and said “Thank you for what you have done”.

Ratio Blaster

WALT: Solve problems using ratio and proportion.

In this game you had to find the equivalent fraction to ratio. In this game you needed to know fractions and ration. There was 6 stages in this game, I completed all the stages and got this certificate. It was hard for me because the spaceships come down pretty fast. I really enjoyed this game. I hope there will be more examples like this.
